Is it OK to earn good from doing good?

I just signed up for Denise Duffield-Thomas’s Money Bootcamp. As an entrepreneur I’ve been following her for some time, binging on her podcasts and listening to her audiobooks, and I knew I’d end up investing in her premium Bootcamp at some point.

It feels edgy to tell you this, as growing up as a daughter of a teacher and a social worker, spending my career working on poverty reduction and then swapping the civil service for the travel industry (not exactly the best paid private sector industry)! My money mindset around what’s right to earn while doing good in the world is pretty typecast.

Rich people are bad people. Don’t be greedy. It’s not right to profit from other people’s problems. Good people give back / do it for free / are content with their lot….any more to add?

I know I‘m not the only one. I coach clients across the public, private and non-profit sector – all talented high achievers who are creating immense value for people and the planet – and most of them also have huge money blocks around earning well from the value they create in the world.

This mindset is going to do nothing but hold us back from creating the value I know we can and should be creating in the world. So out with the old and in with the new.

It’s important for me to lead by example, so here’s me declaring that my money is a perfect reflection of my creativity and the value I bring to the world. “I serve, I deserve” as my mentor would say.

And what better way to drive inclusive, sustainable prosperity in the world, than to create multipliers spending ethically, investing ethically, and employing others in good jobs that help them break cycles of poverty and dependence. So here’s to every do-gooder that’s creating positive multipliers with their well deserved income!

What are your stories around money? And how are they holding you back from creating the value you were meant to provide for the world?

Want to work on your money mindset and accelerate your impact on the world? We should talk.
