How to build a culture of positive people leadership

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

What difference would it make to your organisation when every manager leads their team positively?

Would you like to improve morale, wellbeing, engagement, productivity, customer feedback, revenue, profit, social and/or environmental impact in the world - all of the above..?

Then read on for highlights of a keynote speech I delivered for Capital One on Positive People Leadership, and ask yourself these five questions…*

*Leadership starts at home, so the first four questions are about you as a leader…

Q1. Your Why - what shared mission are you on as an organisation?

What’s personal and important about that to you? How does this help you get out of bed in the morning? Why does this inspire and motivate you to achieve your objectives personally and as a team? Are you united by it, or does it require a rethink?

Q2. Your Strengths – what unique qualities, experience and skills do you personally bring to the table?

What must you tap into to achieve your personal and collective mission at work? If I asked your best friend, what would they say about your strengths? How could you bring more of this to your day-to-day work?

Q3. Your Sabotages – how do you hold yourself back from being the inspiring, incredible leader you want to be?

Gaining awareness of the ways you keep yourself safe, and small will help you catch your saboteurs in action; kindly remind them that a safe small game is not the game you want to play any more. You're on a mission remember.

Assess your personal saboteurs here and then book a debrief call to send them packing.

Q4. Your Opportunities – am I willing to flip my perspective and turn every ‘challenge’ at work into an opportunity?

You can build your capacity to respond to life’s challenges with a positive rather than a negative mindset by tapping into positive drivers like empathy, innovation and curiosity before taking action. You get to decide what drives you. Don't choose fear.

If you're curious as to what these would be for you, and the impact it would have, let’s talk.

Q5. Be a lighthouse – am I ready to take responsibility for the positive leadership of my team by role modelling it?

Help your team understand their answers to the questions above, and in your next 1-2-1, try some of these coaching questions:

Do you have a coach or mentor supporting you?

Book a call today to see if we might be a good fit.

Our impact will always be accelerated when we respond to challenges with a positive rather than negative mindset; every ‘negative’ outcome can be turned into an opportunity.

Change starts with you.

Decide today to be that lighthouse, role modelling the change you wish to see across your organisation.

If you’d like to explore getting support with your leadership, or discuss me delivering a bespoke workshop or keynote on Positive Leadership for your organisation, let’s talk.
