6 years, 6 lessons: What I’ve learned coaching impact-driven leaders

Six years ago, I started this work with a simple but powerful belief: that purpose-driven leaders have the potential to change the world if they’re supported in the right way.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of stepping inside the minds, businesses, and ambitions of incredible humans. Leaders who care deeply, who want to do meaningful work, and who are building something bigger than themselves.
Here’s what I’ve learned about these incredible humans:
1. They think smaller than they’re capable of (at first)
Even the most accomplished, driven leaders often come to me with goals that are safe. Not because they lack ambition, but because they’ve been carrying so much responsibility, pressure, and expectation that their vision has quietly narrowed.
My role isn’t to push harder. It’s to expand what feels possible. Because when they allow themselves to think bigger, really bigger, everything changes. Energy rises, creativity unlocks, and momentum follows.
2. Their biggest obstacles are rarely external
Yes, there are real-world challenges like markets, teams, systems, and time. But the real friction is internal. Doubt, overthinking, the need to get it right, and the fear of being visible at the next level.
Once we surface that and work through it, the external obstacles become far more navigable.
3. They care deeply and carry too much
This is the one that shows up again and again. Impact-driven leaders don’t just care about results; they care about people, purpose, and doing things the right way. But that care can become heavy.
They take more on than they need to. They hold responsibility that isn’t always theirs. They push through when they’re tired because the mission matters. And over time, that can tip into overworking, depletion, and burnout.
What we work on here is not caring less, but carrying differently. Setting boundaries. Letting go of what isn’t theirs to hold. Leading in a way that is sustainable, not sacrificial. Because impact that costs you everything isn’t sustainable impact.
4. They underestimate the power of their energy
Strategy matters, of course it does. But I’ve seen time and time again that a leader’s energy is the multiplier. When they’re drained, everything feels harder. When they’re energised, aligned, and focused, results accelerate.
This is why we don’t just work on goals. We work on how they show up. Sustainable success doesn’t come from pushing harder. It comes from leading differently.
5. They don’t need more information; they need better thinking
These are not beginners. They’ve read the books, done the courses, and they know what to do.
What they need is space. Space to think, to challenge their assumptions, to see blind spots, and to make braver decisions. Coaching isn’t about giving answers. It’s about unlocking a higher level of thinking. From that place, the right actions become obvious.
6. When they shift, everything shifts
This is the part that still amazes me. When a leader raises their standards, owns their vision, and lets go of what’s been holding them back, the ripple effect is huge.
Their business grows, their team evolves, and their impact expands. But more than that, they feel different. More grounded, more certain, more themselves. And that’s where real, sustainable success lives.
So here we are, six years in.
And if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this. Impact-driven leaders don’t need fixing. They need the right space, support, and challenge to step into what they’re truly capable of. Because the version of you that can create the impact you’re here for is already there. Sometimes it just needs unlocking.
If this resonates and you know you’re ready for your next level of impact, I have space for a small number of new coaching clients starting at the end of April. Book a call to explore whether we’re a good fit.
