The Loneliness of Leadership and What to do about it.

It can be lonely as a leader. Whether you’re running your own business or a senior or middle manager in a larger company, the pressure to perform, make tough decisions, decide where to prioritise your time, and put a brave face on for your team, can all feel overwhelming when you think you’re on your own.

When it’s all on your shoulders, and nobody can help, because your goals are unique and your struggles confidential.

What if they weren’t? …..

What if you regularly met up with a group of like-hearted, differently-minded leaders passionately striving for a better world through their work? Who not only share your goals, but are willing to support you on yours.

And most beautifully - struggle with all the same thoughts you do.

So Action Point 1 = Get Community

May’s Lead Powerful Impact Community Coaching call was testimony to how wonderful it feels when you share a seemingly personal struggle and the virtual room erupts with nods and knowing smiles.

“I want to go fast, but my team work at a different pace and I’m at risk of not bringing them with me”

“I want to do all the things at once, but I can’t, I’m only one person, and it makes me so impatient”

“I need to be more visible but I’m afraid of what people will think about me, I can’t afford to feel more isolated”

“I’m lacking the self-belief to pivot and try something new, If I fail I’m not sure I’ll pick myself up again”

“I’m spread too thin; everyone wants a piece of me, I need to focus but how do I decide what to focus on?”

Nods. Knowing smiles. Encouragement. Ideas. Inspiration. And some challenge from me (with love).

And it’s the #metoo that’s so powerful. The reminder that you’re human, we all are, and what connects us is the ability to feel the feels when we stretch our comfort zones. Sharing those feelings in this way is empowering, not a sign of weakness.

If you’re ready to stretch your comfort zone as a leader and get the support of a community that gets you, join us on June 13th, for our next Community Coaching call.

If you missed the last session but would like to catch up and Redefine your Success, take time to ponder these 5 questions.
