You'll find it in the underhand compliments…
“What’s on your mind?” asked my coach last week.
“Not sure what to do with this” I replied, “but I keep getting this ‘compliment’ that’s been bothering me, though I’m sure it shouldn’t…”
“Tell me more…” he said with an eyebrow raise…
“I keep getting feedback that people love me on the team, love me in the room, at their event, running their sessions, as their 121 coach, because of my infectious positive energy…”
[another eyebrow raised]
“Is that ALL I AM? (I’m an Economist, Coach, Advisor, Accelerator, Business Owner, B Corp expert… ”
[Grin]
“It’s what other people have told you about your contribution, so you’ve taken that to BE your contribution?” he replied.
“Yes, like an underhand compliment. Most people in that room last week didn’t know who I work for, don’t know what I do, or what I can help them with…”
“But they know how you made them feel” He interjected.
“It’s like you have this great superpower that most other people don’t. Your good positive energy is very valuable. It bridges gaps, you’re able to move and lead people in. All those people that didn’t know they needed a festival with their people two months ago. You’re memorable, you invite them and they show up. And that’s your natural state, that positive energy, you’re not ‘putting it on’. And you energised their day, their mission, and will continue to do so.
Sounds like we might have some zone of genius right here that’s not being fully owned and tapped into as much as it might…?”
This is what I was pondering as I hosted this week’s Impact MasterMind. So I asked the group:
Q: What are the things YOU get complimented on, that you’re like, “Oh, THAT thing?” (What about all the actual skills, experience and talents I have?!)
Enthusiasm, authority, translation, and reading the room were some of the hidden superpowers we began to uncover in Monday’s MasterMind…
What’s YOUR undercover superpower?
If you know, reach out and tell me, if not, keep an ear out for the compliments you get that trigger something, then own it, tap into it more. From this place, this zone of genius, you will move people, lead people, grow your own influence and impact, supporting others to do the same.
At the end of each Coaching or MasterMind session I always ask for an insight, and an action clients will take on that insight. And I play along too…mine was:
Insight: Channel my superpower, it will help others to channel theirs. Action: Own it and write about it
So here’s me role modelling, sharing something a little vulnerable in the hope it supports and inspires others to own and tap into their superpowers and zones of genius more. We all need to be on our 'A Game' if we’re to leave people and planet in a better place than we found it.
Who’s game?
And if you are wondering what else I offer, if good, infectious energy is not enough (apparently) then come and spend time with me, tell me what you’re up to in the world, and what you’d love to be up to, personally, professionally, as a business or team leader. And I’ll help energise that mission, bring your team with you, and help you take collective massive action to fulfil your purpose.
Powerfully Yours
